Learning with Literature

Grades 6-8

Teacher absence policy- Substitute or class credit

Course Description:  When you make connections to the literature you’re reading, you will remember it for years. It becomes a part of who you are. Learning with Literature gives students the tools they need to build those connections, improve reading comprehension, and become great readers and writers who are able to express themselves eloquently. Each week provides the opportunity to learn spelling and grammar through copywork, dictation, and grammar lessons. We will discuss literary elements found in the book and use our new knowledge for writing projects. Students will be assigned at-home reading and will be expected to log their pages, with incentives along the way to keep them engaged and motivated. Book club parties will take place at the conclusion of each assigned book.
