Basic CAD (Computer Aided Design)

6th-12th

Nathan Brown

Course Description:  This is a basic intro to CAD (Computer Aided Design). This is the first time offering this class. Some of the things that will be included are a basic understanding of the metric system for measuring, the purpose of CAD including real-world applications, business ideas that come from turning ideas into tangible objects, some demonstrations with real-world CAD machines, and much more. TinkerCAD (www.TinkerCAD.com) will be the web-based software for creating students’ own designs. Students will be able to use motors, gears, and more from dissected household goods like printers and other items to be reused. The CAD software only requires web browser access to use. Work is saved in each student’s profile. There will be a TinkerCAD classroom that the students will join and then I will be able to download and print or assist students. Students will print an object to measure to verify they have the basic concept of use down. There will be a requirement to do a drawing of what will be created in TinkerCAD.
