Course Description: This two-semester course will provide a foundation in chemical concepts and principles that will instill in students an appreciation for the vital part chemistry plays in daily life. The goal is to emphasize the balance between theory and application using real-world examples and visualization tools to aid understanding. The textbook we will be utilizing covers a broad range of topics in general chemistry, including:
• Fundamentals: Chemical reactions, atomic structure, and the periodic table.
• Chemical Bonding and Structure: Molecular geometry, hybridization, and intermolecular forces.
• Thermodynamics and Kinetics: Thermochemistry, chemical kinetics, and equilibrium.
• Acids and Bases: Acids, bases, and their reactions. • Electrochemistry: Redox reactions and electrochemistry.
• Organic Chemistry: Introduction to organic compounds and reactions.
• Polymer Chemistry: Synthetic and natural organic polymers.
